Daniel

  1. 6:1  It pleased Darius to set over the kingdom an hundred and twenty princes, which should be over the whole kingdom;
  2. 2  And over these three presidents; of whom Daniel was first: that the princes might give accounts unto them, and the king should have no damage.
  3. 3  Then this Daniel was preferred above the presidents and princes, because an excellent spirit was in him; and the king thought to set him over the whole realm.
  4. 4  Then the presidents and princes sought to find occasion against Daniel concerning the kingdom; but they could find none occasion nor fault; forasmuch as he was faithful, neither was there any error or fault found in him.
  5. 5  Then said these men, We shall not find any occasion against this Daniel, except we find it against him concerning the law of his God.
  6. 6  Then these presidents and princes assembled together to the king, and said thus unto him, King Darius, live for ever.
  7. 7  All the presidents of the kingdom, the governors, and the princes, the counsellors, and the captains, have consulted together to establish a royal statute, and to make a firm decree, that whosoever shall ask a petition of any God or man for thirty days, save of thee, O king, he shall be cast into the den of lions.
  8. 8  Now, O king, establish the decree, and sign the writing, that it be not changed, according to the law of the Medes and Persians, which altereth not.
  9. 9  Wherefore king Darius signed the writing and the decree.
  10. 10  Now when Daniel knew that the writing was signed, he went into his house; and his windows being open in his chamber toward Jerusalem, he kneeled upon his knees three times a day, and prayed, and gave thanks before his God, as he did aforetime.
  11. 11  Then these men assembled, and found Daniel praying and making supplication before his God.
  12. 12  Then they came near, and spake before the king concerning the king's decree; Hast thou not signed a decree, that every man that shall ask a petition of any God or man within thirty days, save of thee, O king, shall be cast into the den of lions? The king answered and said, The thing is true, according to the law of the Medes and Persians, which altereth not.
  13. 13  Then answered they and said before the king, That Daniel, which is of the children of the captivity of Judah, regardeth not thee, O king, nor the decree that thou hast signed, but maketh his petition three times a day.
  14. 14  Then the king, when he heard these words, was sore displeased with himself, and set his heart on Daniel to deliver him: and he laboured till the going down of the sun to deliver him.
  15. 15  Then these men assembled unto the king, and said unto the king, Know, O king, that the law of the Medes and Persians is, That no decree nor statute which the king establisheth may be changed.
  16. 16  Then the king commanded, and they brought Daniel, and cast him into the den of lions. Now the king spake and said unto Daniel, Thy God whom thou servest continually, he will deliver thee.
  17. 17  And a stone was brought, and laid upon the mouth of the den; and the king sealed it with his own signet, and with the signet of his lords; that the purpose might not be changed concerning Daniel.
  18. 18  Then the king went to his palace, and passed the night fasting: neither were instruments of musick brought before him: and his sleep went from him.
  19. 19  Then the king arose very early in the morning, and went in haste unto the den of lions.
  20. 20  And when he came to the den, he cried with a lamentable voice unto Daniel: and the king spake and said to Daniel, O Daniel, servant of the living God, is thy God, whom thou servest continually, able to deliver thee from the lions?
  21. 21  Then said Daniel unto the king, O king, live for ever.
  22. 22  My God hath sent his angel, and hath shut the lions' mouths, that they have not hurt me: forasmuch as before him innocency was found in me; and also before thee, O king, have I done no hurt.
  23. 23  Then was the king exceeding glad for him, and commanded that they should take Daniel up out of the den. So Daniel was taken up out of the den, and no manner of hurt was found upon him, because he believed in his God.
  24. 24  And the king commanded, and they brought those men which had accused Daniel, and they cast them into the den of lions, them, their children, and their wives; and the lions had the mastery of them, and brake all their bones in pieces or ever they came at the bottom of the den.
  25. 25  Then king Darius wrote unto all people, nations, and languages, that dwell in all the earth; Peace be multiplied unto you.
  26. 26  I make a decree, That in every dominion of my kingdom men tremble and fear before the God of Daniel: for he is the living God, and stedfast for ever, and his kingdom that which shall not be destroyed, and his dominion shall be even unto the end.
  27. 27  He delivereth and rescueth, and he worketh signs and wonders in heaven and in earth, who hath delivered Daniel from the power of the lions.
  28. 28  So this Daniel prospered in the reign of Darius, and in the reign of Cyrus the Persian.
  29. Luke

  30. 11:1  And it came to pass, that, as he was praying in a certain place, when he ceased, one of his disciples said unto him, Lord, teach us to pray, as John also taught his disciples.
  31. 2  And he said unto them, When ye pray, say, Our Father which art in heaven, Hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done, as in heaven, so in earth.
  32. 3  Give us day by day our daily bread.
  33. 4  And forgive us our sins; for we also forgive every one that is indebted to us. And lead us not into temptation; but deliver us from evil.
  34. 5  And he said unto them, Which of you shall have a friend, and shall go unto him at midnight, and say unto him, Friend, lend me three loaves;
  35. 6  For a friend of mine in his journey is come to me, and I have nothing to set before him?
  36. 7  And he from within shall answer and say, Trouble me not: the door is now shut, and my children are with me in bed; I cannot rise and give thee.
  37. 8  I say unto you, Though he will not rise and give him, because he is his friend, yet because of his importunity he will rise and give him as many as he needeth.
  38. 9  And I say unto you, Ask, and it shall be given you; seek, and ye shall find; knock, and it shall be opened unto you.
  39. 10  For every one that asketh receiveth; and he that seeketh findeth; and to him that knocketh it shall be opened.
  40. 11  If a son shall ask bread of any of you that is a father, will he give him a stone? or if he ask a fish, will he for a fish give him a serpent?
  41. 12  Or if he shall ask an egg, will he offer him a scorpion?
  42. 13  If ye then, being evil, know how to give good gifts unto your children: how much more shall your heavenly Father give the Holy Spirit to them that ask him?
  43. 14  And he was casting out a devil, and it was dumb. And it came to pass, when the devil was gone out, the dumb spake; and the people wondered.
  44. 15  But some of them said, He casteth out devils through Beelzebub the chief of the devils.
  45. 16  And others, tempting him, sought of him a sign from heaven.
  46. 17  But he, knowing their thoughts, said unto them, Every kingdom divided against itself is brought to desolation; and a house divided against a house falleth.
  47. 18  If Satan also be divided against himself, how shall his kingdom stand? because ye say that I cast out devils through Beelzebub.
  48. 19  And if I by Beelzebub cast out devils, by whom do your sons cast them out? therefore shall they be your judges.
  49. 20  But if I with the finger of God cast out devils, no doubt the kingdom of God is come upon you.
  50. 21  When a strong man armed keepeth his palace, his goods are in peace:
  51. 22  But when a stronger than he shall come upon him, and overcome him, he taketh from him all his armour wherein he trusted, and divideth his spoils.
  52. 23  He that is not with me is against me: and he that gathereth not with me scattereth.
  53. 24  When the unclean spirit is gone out of a man, he walketh through dry places, seeking rest; and finding none, he saith, I will return unto my house whence I came out.
  54. 25  And when he cometh, he findeth it swept and garnished.
  55. 26  Then goeth he, and taketh to him seven other spirits more wicked than himself; and they enter in, and dwell there: and the last state of that man is worse than the first.
  56. 27  And it came to pass, as he spake these things, a certain woman of the company lifted up her voice, and said unto him, Blessed is the womb that bare thee, and the paps which thou hast sucked.
  57. 28  But he said, Yea rather, blessed are they that hear the word of God, and keep it.
  58. 29  And when the people were gathered thick together, he began to say, This is an evil generation: they seek a sign; and there shall no sign be given it, but the sign of Jonas the prophet.
  59. 30  For as Jonas was a sign unto the Ninevites, so shall also the Son of man be to this generation.
  60. 31  The queen of the south shall rise up in the judgment with the men of this generation, and condemn them: for she came from the utmost parts of the earth to hear the wisdom of Solomon; and, behold, a greater than Solomon is here.
  61. 32  The men of Nineve shall rise up in the judgment with this generation, and shall condemn it: for they repented at the preaching of Jonas; and, behold, a greater than Jonas is here.
  62. 33  No man, when he hath lighted a candle, putteth it in a secret place, neither under a bushel, but on a candlestick, that they which come in may see the light.
  63. 34  The light of the body is the eye: therefore when thine eye is single, thy whole body also is full of light; but when thine eye is evil, thy body also is full of darkness.
  64. 35  Take heed therefore that the light which is in thee be not darkness.
  65. 36  If thy whole body therefore be full of light, having no part dark, the whole shall be full of light, as when the bright shining of a candle doth give thee light.
  66. 37  And as he spake, a certain Pharisee besought him to dine with him: and he went in, and sat down to meat.
  67. 38  And when the Pharisee saw it, he marvelled that he had not first washed before dinner.
  68. 39  And the Lord said unto him, Now do ye Pharisees make clean the outside of the cup and the platter; but your inward part is full of ravening and wickedness.
  69. 40  Ye fools, did not he that made that which is without make that which is within also?
  70. 41  But rather give alms of such things as ye have; and, behold, all things are clean unto you.
  71. 42  But woe unto you, Pharisees! for ye tithe mint and rue and all manner of herbs, and pass over judgment and the love of God: these ought ye to have done, and not to leave the other undone.
  72. 43  Woe unto you, Pharisees! for ye love the uppermost seats in the synagogues, and greetings in the markets.
  73. 44  Woe unto you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! for ye are as graves which appear not, and the men that walk over them are not aware of them.
  74. 45  Then answered one of the lawyers, and said unto him, Master, thus saying thou reproachest us also.
  75. 46  And he said, Woe unto you also, ye lawyers! for ye lade men with burdens grievous to be borne, and ye yourselves touch not the burdens with one of your fingers.
  76. 47  Woe unto you! for ye build the sepulchres of the prophets, and your fathers killed them.
  77. 48  Truly ye bear witness that ye allow the deeds of your fathers: for they indeed killed them, and ye build their sepulchres.
  78. 49  Therefore also said the wisdom of God, I will send them prophets and apostles, and some of them they shall slay and persecute:
  79. 50  That the blood of all the prophets, which was shed from the foundation of the world, may be required of this generation;
  80. 51  From the blood of Abel unto the blood of Zacharias, which perished between the altar and the temple: verily I say unto you, It shall be required of this generation.
  81. 52  Woe unto you, lawyers! for ye have taken away the key of knowledge: ye entered not in yourselves, and them that were entering in ye hindered.
  82. 53  And as he said these things unto them, the scribes and the Pharisees began to urge him vehemently, and to provoke him to speak of many things:
  83. 54  Laying wait for him, and seeking to catch something out of his mouth, that they might accuse him.
  84. 18:1  And he spake a parable unto them to this end, that men ought always to pray, and not to faint;
  85. 2  Saying, There was in a city a judge, which feared not God, neither regarded man:
  86. 3  And there was a widow in that city; and she came unto him, saying, Avenge me of mine adversary.
  87. 4  And he would not for a while: but afterward he said within himself, Though I fear not God, nor regard man;
  88. 5  Yet because this widow troubleth me, I will avenge her, lest by her continual coming she weary me.
  89. 6  And the Lord said, Hear what the unjust judge saith.
  90. 7  And shall not God avenge his own elect, which cry day and night unto him, though he bear long with them?
  91. 8  I tell you that he will avenge them speedily. Nevertheless when the Son of man cometh, shall he find faith on the earth?
  92. 9  And he spake this parable unto certain which trusted in themselves that they were righteous, and despised others:
  93. 10  Two men went up into the temple to pray; the one a Pharisee, and the other a publican.
  94. 11  The Pharisee stood and prayed thus with himself, God, I thank thee, that I am not as other men are, extortioners, unjust, adulterers, or even as this publican.
  95. 12  I fast twice in the week, I give tithes of all that I possess.
  96. 13  And the publican, standing afar off, would not lift up so much as his eyes unto heaven, but smote upon his breast, saying, God be merciful to me a sinner.
  97. 14  I tell you, this man went down to his house justified rather than the other: for every one that exalteth himself shall be abased; and he that humbleth himself shall be exalted.
  98. 15  And they brought unto him also infants, that he would touch them: but when his disciples saw it, they rebuked them.
  99. 16  But Jesus called them unto him, and said, Suffer little children to come unto me, and forbid them not: for of such is the kingdom of God.
  100. 17  Verily I say unto you, Whosoever shall not receive the kingdom of God as a little child shall in no wise enter therein.
  101. 18  And a certain ruler asked him, saying, Good Master, what shall I do to inherit eternal life?
  102. 19  And Jesus said unto him, Why callest thou me good? none is good, save one, that is, God.
  103. 20  Thou knowest the commandments, Do not commit adultery, Do not kill, Do not steal, Do not bear false witness, Honour thy father and thy mother.
  104. 21  And he said, All these have I kept from my youth up.
  105. 22  Now when Jesus heard these things, he said unto him, Yet lackest thou one thing: sell all that thou hast, and distribute unto the poor, and thou shalt have treasure in heaven: and come, follow me.
  106. 23  And when he heard this, he was very sorrowful: for he was very rich.
  107. 24  And when Jesus saw that he was very sorrowful, he said, How hardly shall they that have riches enter into the kingdom of God!
  108. 25  For it is easier for a camel to go through a needle's eye, than for a rich man to enter into the kingdom of God.
  109. 26  And they that heard it said, Who then can be saved?
  110. 27  And he said, The things which are impossible with men are possible with God.
  111. 28  Then Peter said, Lo, we have left all, and followed thee.
  112. 29  And he said unto them, Verily I say unto you, There is no man that hath left house, or parents, or brethren, or wife, or children, for the kingdom of God's sake,
  113. 30  Who shall not receive manifold more in this present time, and in the world to come life everlasting.
  114. 31  Then he took unto him the twelve, and said unto them, Behold, we go up to Jerusalem, and all things that are written by the prophets concerning the Son of man shall be accomplished.
  115. 32  For he shall be delivered unto the Gentiles, and shall be mocked, and spitefully entreated, and spitted on:
  116. 33  And they shall scourge him, and put him to death: and the third day he shall rise again.
  117. 34  And they understood none of these things: and this saying was hid from them, neither knew they the things which were spoken.
  118. 35  And it came to pass, that as he was come nigh unto Jericho, a certain blind man sat by the way side begging:
  119. 36  And hearing the multitude pass by, he asked what it meant.
  120. 37  And they told him, that Jesus of Nazareth passeth by.
  121. 38  And he cried, saying, Jesus, thou Son of David, have mercy on me.
  122. 39  And they which went before rebuked him, that he should hold his peace: but he cried so much the more, Thou Son of David, have mercy on me.
  123. 40  And Jesus stood, and commanded him to be brought unto him: and when he was come near, he asked him,
  124. 41  Saying, What wilt thou that I shall do unto thee? And he said, Lord, that I may receive my sight.
  125. 42  And Jesus said unto him, Receive thy sight: thy faith hath saved thee.
  126. 43  And immediately he received his sight, and followed him, glorifying God: and all the people, when they saw it, gave praise unto God.
